Third Street Blanket is easy to knit with super bulky yarn. The design features an easy to remember 4-row repeat pattern and a seed stitch border. This pattern has been a customer favorite for several years!

The name for the Third Street Blanket is inspired by a map of one of the oldest neighborhoods in Kansas City… my hometown.

DIRECTIONS FOR SIX BLANKET SIZES:
Approximate sizes after blocking…

XXL: 54.5” wide x 60.5” long
XL: 50” wide x 50.5” long
Large: 41.75” wide x 50.5” long
Medium: : 38.25” wide x 38.75” long
Small: 34.5” wide x 34” long
Baby: 28.25” wide x 28” long

Any of the blanket sizes may be made longer by adding pattern repeats. Each pattern repeat adds about 1.25” to the length of the blanket. Pattern includes estimates for additional yardage needed to make blankets longer.

SUPER BULKY #6 WEIGHTYARN:

XXL: 1350 - 1420 yards
XL: 1040 - 1100 yards
Large: 860 - 900 yards
Medium: 610 - 650 yards
Small: 490 - 520 yards
Baby: 325 - 350 yards

Be sure to buy additional yarn if you plan to add length to your blanket.

The texture of the pattern will show up best with solid color yarns. Pattern is not reversible.

I used Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick in the ‘Glacier’ colorway. This pattern will work well with many super bulky weight yarns including Lion Brand Hometown and Lion Brand Re-Spun Thick & Quick. See more yarn suggestions in my blog post about super bulky yarns.

If you prefer knitting with worsted weight yarn (single strand)…please see my Making Plans blanket knitting pattern.

KNITTING NEEDLES:

In order to accommodate the large number of stitches, long circular needles are highly recommended. I use US size 13 circular knitting needles 38” in length for larger blankets. For a crib or baby blanket, circular needles in a shorter length could be used.

SKILL LEVEL: Easy for a confident knitter

You will need to know how to cast on stitches, knit and purl confidently, read a row by row knitting pattern, bind off stitches and weave in ends. Blocking of finished knitting is recommended.

Blocking of finished blanket is highly recommended.

This pattern is written in English using standard U.S. knitting terms.

Written pattern with row by row instructions.
