DIRECTIONS FOR LARGE THROW BLANKET:
Large Throw Blanket = 42” wide x 53” long

To make blanket longer purchase more of Color A (shown in darker blue in photos).  Work a couple more rows for bottom and top stripes and add desired number of extra inches for large center stripe (blue).  Each additional 2” of length requires approximately 65 - 68 yards.

FIVE COLORS OF BULKY #5 WEIGHT YARN:

This striped blanket pattern features five colors of bulky yarn. (Knit single strand.)

I used Lion Brand Hue & Me bulky yarn in Marine (5 skeins / Color A), Whisper (2 skeins / Color B), Smoke (1 skein / Color C), Salt (1 skein / Color D) and Harbor (2 skeins / Color E). See the full selection of colorways on LionBrand.com.

Color A: 670 - 685 yards = 5 skeins of Hue & Me
Color B: 270 - 274 yards = 2 skeins of Hue & Me
Color C: 130 - 137 yards = 1 skein of Hue & Me
Color D: 130 - 137 yards = 1 skein of Hue & Me
Color E: 270 - 274 yards = 2 skeins of Hue & Me

TOTAL: 1470 - 1507 yards = 11 skeins of Lion Brand Hue & Me

This large striped blanket requires 11 skeins of Lion Brand Hue & Me. Each skein of yarn contains 137 yards. I have carefully designed this striped blanket to use the yardage as efficiently as possible so there’s minimal leftover yarn.

When selecting your five color choices for this striped blanket… consider using: two medium, one dark and two light colorways. For a more subtle effect choose a combination of five light to medium colorways. And, for a bold appearance choose a combination of five medium to dark colorways. For more color combination ideas see my blog post about this blanket.

If you prefer to use only four yarn colors… use the same yarn color for A and E.

I’m thrilled with how Lion Brand Hue & Me yarn (80% acrylic / 20% wool) worked for this project! The stitch definition is fantastic. This yarn creates a wonderfully cozy hand knit blanket.

See the full selection of Lion Brand Hue & Me yarn colors on LionBrand.com.

GAUGE:
Garter stitch with US size 10.5 needles: 12 sts & 22 rows (11 garter ridges) = 4”

Take time to check gauge. A different gauge may require more (or less) yarn and impact finished size.

KNITTING NEEDLES:

Blanket is knit flat, in one piece on US size 10.5 circular knitting needles. Circular needles that are about 28” - 40” in length will work well.

SKILL LEVEL: Easy

You will need to know how to cast on stitches, knit confidently, read a knitting pattern written in English using standard US knitting terms, and bind off stitches. See by blog post for tips on weaving in ends.
