If you are a baseball fan, you may have already guessed the inspiration for the name of the Across the Diamond blanket. Sets of four purl stitches create a design similar to the layout of a baseball diamond. (I happened to start designing this blanket while watching the World Series!)

Across the Diamond blanket is designed for super bulky #6 weight yarn.

Fabulous pattern & I’m really pleased with how it’s turned out. (Blanket made as a Christmas gift for parents!)
— Ravelry knitter's review

As of September 2023, this pattern has a rating of 4.9 out of 5 stars on Ravelry for overall results and 5 out of 5 stars for clarity of instructions.

DIRECTIONS FOR FIVE BLANKET SIZES:
Approximate sizes after blocking…

Baby: 30.5” wide x 32” long
Small: 34” wide x 37” long
Medium: : 37.5” wide x 42” long
Large: 41” wide x 47” long
XL: 48” wide x 52” long

Any of the blanket sizes may be made longer by adding pattern repeats. Each pattern repeat adds about 5” to the length of the blanket. Pattern includes estimates for additional yardage needed to make blankets longer.

SUPER BULKY #6 WEIGHT YARN:

Baby: 380 - 410 yards
Small: 500 - 540 yards
Medium: 620 - 670 yards
Large: 740 - 800 yards
XL: 1000 - 1100 yards

This pattern will work well with many super bulky weight yarns. Blue blanket shown was made with Lion Brand Hometown in ‘Charlotte Blue’. The pattern will also work well with Lion Brand Re-Spun Thick & Quick or any of the yarns featured in my blog post about super bulky yarns for blanket knitting.

The texture of the pattern will show up best with a solid color yarn.

Be sure to buy additional yarn if you plan to add length to your blanket.

KNITTING NEEDLES:

In order to accommodate the large number of stitches, long circular needles are highly recommended. I use US size 13 circular knitting needles 38” in length for larger blankets. For a crib or baby blanket, circular needles in a shorter length could be used.

SKILL LEVEL: Easy for a confident knitter.

You will need to know how to cast on stitches, knit and purl confidently, read a row by row knitting pattern, bind off stitches and weave in ends. Blocking of finished knitting is suggested.

Blocking of the finished blanket is recommended.

This pattern uses standard U.S. knitting terms.

Written pattern with row by row instructions.
