My new “Time to Time” striped blanket knitting pattern features five colorways from the Berroco Vintage worsted #4 weight yarn collection.
The blanket is knit entirely in garter stitch so it’s very easy to knit.
I used the Twilight, Smoke, Charcoal, Mochi and Jalapeno colorways. I picked blue, gray and green colorways to coordinate with our family room décor.

INSPIRATION FOR THE PATTERN NAME:
The name for this pattern is inspired by simple things that are fun to do from time to time such as…
going to a museum
trying a new hobby
playing a card game
watching an old movie
tackling a jigsaw puzzle
rereading a favorite book
visiting a park or botanical garden
stopping at a yarn store on a road trip
serving a build-your-own ice cream sundae bar
baking cookies using a new recipe (or a favorite old recipe)
Recently, I’ve been checking a few of these ideas off my list. Last month we took a couple road trips to visit family. While in St. Paul, Minnesota, it was a treat to visit The Yarnery yarn shop… it’s gorgeous! The Yarnery stocks a full selection of Berroco Vintage worsted yarn (which I used for the Time to Time blanket), as well as an extensive and enticing selection of other beautiful yarns and craft supplies. Of course, I bought some yarn for a future knitting design!
On another trip, we stopped at the National Quilt Museum in Paducah, Kentucky. It was inspiring to see the exhibits of creative, modern quilts.
And, one night during a family reunion weekend we set up a build-your-own ice cream sundae bar with vanilla ice cream, hot fudge sauce, whipped cream, peanut butter, crushed graham crackers and chopped nuts. It was such a hit that I’m pretty sure we started a new family tradition!
The Time to Time blanket is very relaxing to knit. Pick five favorite colors of worsted weight yarn and knit a classic striped blanket for your home. From time to time when the days are chilly, you can enjoy wrapping up in your one-of-a-kind, hand knit blanket.

IT’S EASY TO KNIT THIS BLANKET:
Time to Time Blanket pattern is very easy to knit. The project is perfect for beginners! And, it’s a relaxing knit for experienced knitters.
If you know how to cast on stitches, work the knit stitch, read a written knitting pattern in English and bind off stitches… then you have the skills to make this blanket.
If you need some tips for weaving in the ends of yarn… see my blog post with step-by-step photos.
KNIT A LARGE THROW:
The PDF knitting pattern has instructions for a large throw which measures approximately 42” wide x 53” long.
To make blanket longer purchase more of Color A (shown in blue stripes at top, bottom and center of blanket in photos). Work a couple more rows for bottom and top stripes and add desired number of extra inches for wide center stripe. Each additional 2” of length requires approximately 80 yards of yarn. See more details in the PDF pattern.
BERROCO VINTAGE WORSTED #4 WEIGHT YARN:
This striped blanket pattern features five colors of Berroco Vintage (52% acrylic / 40% wool / 8% nylon) worsted #4 weight yarn.
I’m thrilled with how Berroco Vintage worked for this project! This yarn has a soft, pleasing texture with great stitch definition.
Berroco Vintage is a dependable, classic yarn that has been on the market for decades. It’s a fantastic choice for an heirloom quality blanket knitting project.
Berroco Vintage is available in more than 100 attractive colorways. Many of the colorways are slightly heathered (including Twilight, Smoke, Jalapeno, Charcoal and many others) and these coordinate beautifully together. Other colorways are solid colorways… which are also lovely. When selecting five colorways for your striped blanket project I recommend picking either a combination of five “solid” colorways or five “heathered” colorways.
Berroco Vintage is machine washable on gentle cycle. (If possible, I would recommend hand washing a large hand knit blanket.) Lay flat to dry.
SHOP FOR BERROCO VINTAGE YARN:
At many local yarn shops | The Yarnery in St. Paul, Minnesota | Four Purls Yarn Shop in Florida | Jimmy Beans Wool | Knit Picks
I used five colorways of Berroco Vintage yarn. A flat basket is a nice way to keep the balls of yarn organized. The yarn colors I used are Twilight (medium heathered blue), Smoke (medium heathered gray), Charcoal (dark heathered gray), Mochi (white) and Jalapeno (heathered teal).
AMOUNT OF YARN NEEDED:
This project requires 11 skeins of Berroco Vintage in five colorways:

Color C: 160 - 165 yards = 1 skein of Berroco Vintage
Color D: 160 - 165 yards = 1 skein of Berroco Vintage
Color E: 400 - 410 yards = 2 skeins of Berroco Vintage
TOTAL: 2200 - 2266 yards = 11 skeins of Berroco Vintage
This blanket project is designed to use 11 skeins of Berroco Vintage yarn efficiently so there’s minimal leftover yarn.
The blanket is knit with a single strand of worsted yarn.

KNITTING NEEDLES:
The Time to Time blanket is knit flat, in one piece on US 8 circular needles, 28” - 40” in length (or needle size necessary to obtain gauge).
Circular knitting needles are necessary to accommodate the large number of stitches for a large blanket. Read my blog post on this topic if you need more information.
GAUGE:
Garter stitch with US size 8 needles: 18 stitches & 34 rows (17 garter ridges) = 4”
Take time to check gauge by casting on 30 stitches and knit every row (garter stitch) for at least 5”. A different gauge may require more more (or less) yarn and impact finished size.
If your gauge swatch has fewer than 18 stitches per 4”… try one needle size smaller.
If your gauge swatch has more than 18 stitches per 4”… try one needle size larger.
Happy knitting!
