Brookside Blanket

Brookside Blanket

$5.00

The Brookside Blanket is fun to knit with super bulky yarn and big knitting needles. The design features a square grid design surrounded by a textured border.

The Brookside Blanket knitting pattern is named for the neighborhood where I grew up in the Kansas City, Missouri area. The grid inspired knitting pattern reminds me of the orderly neighborhood streets with charming homes that date back to the 1920’s.

DIRECTIONS FOR SIX BLANKET SIZES:
Approximate sizes after blocking…

Baby: 25” wide x 31” long
Small: 32.5” wide x 38” long
Medium: 39.5” wide x 41.5” long
Large: 43” wide x 52” long
XL: 46.5” wide x 55.5” long
XXL: 50” wide x 59” long

Any of the blanket sizes may be made longer by adding pattern repeats. Each pattern repeat adds about 3.5” to the length of the blanket. Pattern includes estimates for additional yardage needed to make blankets longer.

SUPER BULKY #6 WEIGHT YARN:

Baby: 335 - 350 yards
Small: 480 - 510 yards
Medium: 640 - 680 yards
Large: 900 - 940 yards
XL: 1050 - 1100 yards
XXL: 1200 - 1250 yards

Be sure to buy additional yarn if you plan to add length to your blanket.

This pattern will work well with many super bulky weight yarns. I used Loops & Threads Cozy Wool in the ‘Fleece’ colorway for the white blanket shown. This yarn has been discontinued. Other great yarn options include Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick, Lion Brand Hometown and Lion Brand Re-Spun Thick & Quick.

There are lots of other super bulky yarns to consider. See my blog post for more suggestions!

NEEDLES:

In order to accommodate the large number of stitches, long circular needles are highly recommended.

SKILL LEVEL: Easy for a confident knitter

You will need to know how to cast on stitches, knit and purl confidently, follow row by row knitting instructions, bind off stitches and weave in ends.

Blocking of finished knitting is highly recommended. Click here to read about blocking in my blog post.

This pattern is written in English using standard U.S. knitting terms.

Written pattern with row by row instructions.

I’ve started (knitting) and am really loving it - very simple pattern that looks great. (Making a blanket for young daughter.)

Wonderful pattern. I still need to weave in the ends and then block the piece, but I am incredibly happy with how the blanket turned out.
