Home in hand 1c.jpg

Welcome! I’m Mary Lee… the knitter and designer behind Fifty Four Ten Studio. I have been knitting, sewing and crafting since I was about eight years old. I published my first knitting pattern in 2013 and my collection now includes more than 70 designs. Fifty Four Ten Studio is named for the house number of the home my grandparents purchased when my mother was a young girl.

Fifty Four Ten Studio Knit-a-Long Wrap-Up and Project Gallery - Spring 2025

Fifty Four Ten Studio Knit-a-Long Wrap-Up and Project Gallery - Spring 2025

The first ever Fifty Four Ten Studio knit-a-long has come to an end! More than 80 knitters registered to participate in the knit-a-long. It’s extremely fun to see all the projects that knitters created for the KAL over the last couple of months.

In this blog post you’ll find the announcement of KAL prize winners (it was very hard to choose!) and see photos of the many KAL projects that knitters created.

A QUICK REVIEW OF KNIT-A-LONG PLAN

In case you missed the March announcement for this knit-a-long, knitters were invited to select any of my Fifty Four Ten Studio knitting patterns and the yarn of their choice.

The knit-a-long time frame was about eight weeks and ended on Monday, May 19th. (The original deadline was extended by a couple days!)

To be eligible for prizes, photos of projects were shared on Ravelry, Instagram or by email by Monday, May 19th, 2025.

Only those who registered for the KAL are eligible for prizes. The deadline for registration was Monday, May 5th, 2025.

CHOOSING KAL PRIZE WINNERS WAS CHALLENGING!

It’s wonderful that so many knitters participated in the knit-a-long. Lots of project photos were shared on Ravelry, Instagram and by email. I’m excited to share those projects here!

Knit-a-long projects did not have to be completed to be eligible for prizes.  Finished and work-in-progress projects were considered.

Knit-a-long prize winners were selected based on a well-crafted and attractive project, clear and appealing project photos, as well as informative project notes.

It was very difficult to pick the prize winning projects! It means so much to me to see every project that is created with one of my Fifty Four Ten Studio patterns.

Even if your project was not selected for a KAL prize, I hope you know that I appreciate being able to share so many KAL projects here in this blog post.

All photos below are shared with permission of each knitter as indicated on the KAL registration form.

WINNER OF PRIZE #1:

Congratulations to Vickie… the winner of Prize #1! She receives a $100 gift certificate to Yarn Social.  Vicki may shop in person at this cute little yarn shop in Kansas City or online at yarnsocial.com

This photo of her lovely lavender blanket draped in a flowering tree caught my attention the first time I saw it!

For this baby blanket project, Vickie used the All the Memories knitting blanket pattern and Loops & Threads Impeccable yarn in the ‘Lavender’ colorway. Get all the details on Vicki’s project on Ravelry.

Vickie used the All the Memories blanket pattern and Loops & Threads Impeccable yarn in the ‘Lavender’ colorway to knit this lovely baby blanket. In her project notes on Ravelry, Vickie wrote: “There’s a new baby girl expected to join the extended family this summer. They plan on naming her Lavender Willow.” This thoughtful gift is sure to be treasured! Get all the details on Vicki’s project on Ravelry.

WINNERS OF PRIZE #2:

Two knitters will receive Prize #2… a Knitting Words Insulated Travel Mug from my Fifty Four Ten Studio Zazzle shop and three (3) Fifty Four Ten Studio knitting patterns of their choice.

Congratulations to Amber and Rhetta! Their very attractive project photos capture their beautiful stitches.

Amber knit a beautiful, reversible blanket using the In This Chapter knitting pattern. This photo shows off the geometric stitch pattern exceptionally well.

Amber knit this gorgeous blanket using the In This Chapter knitting pattern and “I Love this Cotton” yarn in the ‘Olive’ colorway. Beautiful stitches and a lovely project photo! See Amber’s project on Instagram.

Rhetta knit a blanket for a co-worker using the All the Memories Blanket with Lion Brand Heartland in the 'Capitol Reef' colorway (photo below).  The lighter colorway allows the geometric stitch pattern to shine. And, Rhetta’s stitches are simply perfect. See more details about Rhetta's project on Ravelry.

WINNERS OF PRIZE #3:

Two knitters will receive Prize #3… an “I Brought My Knitting” Tote Bag in their choice of color from my Fifty Four Ten Studio Zazzle shop and three (3) Fifty Four Ten Studio knitting patterns of their choice.

Congratulations to Barb and Robin! These two work-in-progress photos show how a gently variegated yarn can work nicely with a textured blanket pattern.

Several weeks ago, Barb emailed a few photos (see one below) of her Dance on the Breeze blanket project on the needles. She is using Yarnspirations Caron Jumbo Ombre. The multi-color yarn changes gently from one shade to the next… while showing off the textured stitch pattern.

Barb emailed this pretty photo of her Dance on the Breeze Blanket project on the needles.  She is using Yarnspirations Caron Jumbo Ombre.  The gentle, ombré style fading of colors works beautifully with the simple, textured stitch pattern.

Robin submitted two projects for the knit-a-long. This work-in-progress photo (below) of the On the Bright Side blanket with a gently variegated yarn in a neutral shade is particularly attractive. This yarn is Caron Cotton Painterly Cakes which appears to be discontinued. For similar results, consider using Caron Cotton Cakes yarn or Lion Brand Mandala Ombre worsted #4 weight acrylic yarn.

Robin is knitting a blanket using the On the Bright Side knitting pattern and Caron Cotton Painterly Cakes yarn. The calm, neutral colorway works nicely with this textured pattern. (This yarn appears to be discontinued. However, Caron Cotton Cakes might offer similar results.)

WINNERS OF PRIZE #4:

Five knitters were selected to receive Prize #4. Each will receive their choice of three (3) Fifty Four Ten Studio knitting patterns.

Congratulations to Francine, Eileen, Anna, Christina and Melissa!

Francine knit this lovely Here & Now Blanket using Lion Brand Hue & Me bulky #5 weight yarn. The five pastel colorways she used are ‘Love Song’, ‘Salt’, ‘Bellini’, ‘Haze’ and ‘Rose Water’. This cozy throw looks fantastic!

Eileen knit this lovely baby blanket using the In This Chapter knitting pattern. The solid, lighter colorway allows the reversible stitch pattern to be “the star of the show”. Such beautiful stitches! See more details about Eileen’s project on Ravelry.

Anna is knitting a baby blanket for her first child using the Look for Happiness knitting pattern and Blue Sky Fibers Organic Cotton Worsted in the ‘True Red’ colorway. Such a sweet photo of her knitting project neatly draped in a bassinet. See more details about Anna’ project on Ravelry.

Christina started knitting the In This Chapter blanket using Berroco Vintage worsted #4 weight yarn in the ‘Okra’ colorway. On Instagram Christina wrote: “I may have a few too many projects underway to have really spent a lot of time on my In This Chapter Blanket for the @fiftyfourtenstudio knit along; however, I am glad I got it cast on and a good start. I can already tell that this is one of those projects that I will be glad to have on hand for the times I need something repetitive to knit (when things are crazy and my mind is a million places or when I need a break from another project).”

Melissa knit this very large On the Porch blanket in only 14 days! Read more about her project below.

For the very large, blue On the Porch blanket (above) Melissa used yarn from her stash… two skeins Knit Picks Brava 500 worsted in the ‘Celestial’ colorway.  Here’s what Melissa wrote about her project on Instagram: “Since the blue was so dark, I went with a simpler pattern and one that I've made a bunch of times before, On the Porch. It's mindless knitting and easy to keep track of where you're at in the pattern. I went with US 7 needles and cast on for the XL size, knowing that I typically have a looser gauge, so it would end up the width I wanted. Then I basically knit until I was out of yarn. Finished size is approx. 50" x 64", so even bigger than the XXL size. It's the perfect couch blanket for my husband who is 6' tall and I absolutely love how it turned out.”

KAL PROJECTS - ON THE NEEDLES:

Several knitters shared WIP photos of their knitting on the needles. Finishing a project was not a requirement for this KAL! A few knitters said they appreciated the opportunity to get started on a new project and they are looking forward to finishing it up at their own pace in the weeks and months to come.

I would love to see photos of any KAL projects that are finished up at a later date! My email address is in every pattern. Send me an email anytime.

Barb is knitting a baby blanket using the Take a Sunrise blanket knitting pattern and Cascade Sierra yarn in the ‘Hot Pink’ colorway. This pattern is free to download every day on Ravelry or my website. See Barb’s project on Ravelry.

Anne is using a multi-color pastel yarn to knit a blanket with The Days to Come knitting pattern. Beautiful stitches! This pattern works well with a multi-color or hand-dyed yarn.

Sheri is knitting a scarf using the Thoughts of You knitting pattern and a bright, cheerful ‘Purple Passion’ colorway.

Sue is knitting a blanket with the On the Porch knitting pattern and Red Heart Soft yarn. Here’s what Sue wrote about this blanket project on Instagram: “I’ve wanted to knit @fiftyfourtenstudio‘s “On the Porch” pattern for quite a while, and this KAL has provided just the right motivation. I also have fond memories of summer evenings on my grandparents’ porch. My sister, cousins, and I would run around the yard catching fireflies and, as night fell, end up on the porch swing until our parents would gather us up to go home.”

BEAUTIFUL FINISHED BLANKETS:

Here are a three blanket knitting projects that used multi-color or variegated yarn with attractive and unique results.

Robin knit this lovely On the Porch blanket using Caron Cotton Painterly in the “Intense Iris”. Pairing a simple blanket pattern with a self striping yarn creates a truly one-of-a-kind blanket! Robin wrote in an email to me: “On the Porch was a new pattern for me. It was so easy.”

Deb emailed photos of two blanket projects she knit using the Look for Happiness knitting pattern. The yarn used for this project is Lion Brand Mandala Ombre in the ‘Cool’ colorway. The gentle gradient of neutral colors works beautifully with this textured stitch pattern. (See her purple blanket in a photo collage below.)

Micah emailed this photo of a truly one-of-a-kind blanket that was knit using the On the Porch blanket knitting pattern and Yarnspirations Caron Jumbo #4 weight yarn. This appears to be the ‘Seafoam’ colorway. Fun results with a multi-color yarn and a simple blanket pattern!
